Introduction

The first member to join the unit was CSM W02 L. Lilley on 29 October, 1967. From this start the unit was formed to a strength of two officers and 83 other ranks.

Stores were indented for, and of the 1,500 indents 80% were satisfied by the cut-off date of 8 December, 1967.

The vehicles and stores were packed and delivered to Sydney for on forwarding to South Vietnam by 1 December, 1967. This was 43 days from the date of notification of the forming of the unit.

Most people had to do 21 days Battle Efficiency Course, have medicals, dentals etc., and then leave, so labour was very short. The Advance Party left Sydney 28 December, and arrived Nui Dat 29 December, 1967.

On arrival in South Vietnam the Advance Party was fostered by

  • RAAOC 6 OFP.
  • RAEME HQ 1 ATF LAD, commanded by Capt D. Briggs.
